“I have always held the strong belief that my role as a teacher is to educate the whole child. Each student is an individual and as such has different preferences for learning and will also perceive and interpret meaning differently. By including a variety of teaching strategies, differentiation and multimodal experiences I try to provide explicit instruction, modelling, shared and guided experiences. Incorporating these and some experiential learning through whole class, individual, partner and/or small group activities is also of benefit. The objective of this is to encourage and motivate students to learn and to create the best possible opportunities for all students to engage with their learning so they can make progress towards their individual academic, social and emotional goals. Underlying my teaching philosophy is also the belief that through providing a supportive environment that includes high but realistic expectations it helps students learn to have a go, believe in themselves and their abilities and contributes towards increasing their sense of self-worth. It also enables them to discover their specific strengths and interests and provides a supportive system under which they can develop to the best of their abilities.

Finally, I believe that respect is the foundation that all the above must be built upon and will endeavour to promote it as a required value in any classroom and school in which I find myself lucky enough to work in.”

Trish is currently working with Eton Farm Primary School as our Art & Class Teacher and has bought such a breadth of knowledge to the children.  Other duties include working as our Curriculum Co-ordinator.
We are excited to have her as part of our team .

Children have everything they need to learn. They are curious, creative, spontaneous, eager they can absorb knowledge and demonstrate their understanding in many different ways.  The teaching process, teaching environment and educator are very important in supporting children to develop their understanding of different concepts.  The first 8 years is the foundation of all knowledge that sets them up for the rest of their life.   Therefore, the way they are educated is vital to their development.   If a child can continue to learn as the have begun as a baby the benefits are outstanding.  Babies learn through imitation, exploration and improvisation. For example, a babbling baby is imitating the vocal sounds around them, then they explore a range of their own sounds, people respond to them which gives them more ideas and then they improvised to some and then make it their own in formal speech.

I believe if a child’s strengths can be encouraged and their weaknesses identified and addressed the child will be confident, successful and happy.  It is possible to support children in these ways when there are small class numbers, creative teaching styles and individualised learning.

The process of Imitation, Exploration, Improvisation and Literacy is used in the Orff approach to music and movement education.  It creates a scaffolding for development and creativity and can be transferred to learning all core subject areas.

Cross curricular learning with the arts as a foundation allows children to continue to play and learn at the same time.   They can cover curriculum outcomes at their own speed.     I am excited about the possibilities for students attending our school as I know the benefits are great and look forward to seeing them develop during their schooling here.
